The new romantic subculture was short–lived, over by 1981, but its legacy was a chart dominance of new wave synth-pop bands like Human League, soft cell, duran duran and Bananarama. The flouncing shirts and dramatic, androgynous dress most associated with new romantics would soon be launched on the high street, even finding its place in the wardrobe of Lady Diana with a feathered hat or frilled neckline..
